This monograph examines the issues and methods involved in the provision of training in Indian child welfare. It introduces the trainer to procedures used during planning, designing, and conducting training. It is designed to give the Indian child welfare trainer and understanding of the historical context of teaching and training in the Indian community. To guide training, it proposes a philosophy based on cultural values. The monograph discusses several aspects of training including the trainer’s role, the learning environment, group process, audience assessment, development of training objectives, methods of instruction and evaluation. It examines the cultural issues related to training. Furthermore, the monograph suggests a framework for organizing training and discusses the effective use of self as a trainer. The goal of this monograph is to enhance the capacity of the Indian child welfare worker to provide training using the Heritage and Helping curriculum.
